Quotes, Process and RYL

Is getting a quote free?

Yes, it is free. Requesting and comparing quotes costs nothing, and you are under no obligation to buy a policy after seeing the offer.

More detail: Get a Quote page

What information is needed for a quote?

It depends on the line of business: motor quotes need the plate or chassis number, health quotes need each insured person's name, national ID number and date of birth, and home quotes need the address and building details. If a document is required, the form states which one.

More detail: Get a Quote page

How long does a quote take?

Your request reaches our advisors and you receive a reply within 24 hours. The comparison is built from the prices returned by the insurers we act for; the premium itself is set by the insurer.

What is the difference between Kasko and traffic insurance?

Compulsory traffic insurance covers damage you cause to others and is required by law. Kasko covers damage to your own vehicle and is optional.

More detail: Kasko or Compulsory Traffic Insurance: What Is the Difference?

What does complementary health insurance do?

It lets you be treated at contracted private hospitals without paying the difference, even though you are covered by SGK. Premiums are lower than private health insurance.

More detail: What Is Complementary Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Is DASK compulsory — isn't home insurance enough?

DASK is required by law for earthquake and is not sufficient on its own. A home package covers fire, flood and theft, plus the amount above the DASK limit.

More detail: What Is DASK and What Does It Cover?

What should I do first when I have a claim?

Make sure everyone is safe, then call the insurer's claim line. Let us know as well and we will guide you through the paperwork.

Should I report a claim to the agency or to the insurer?

The notification goes to the insurer that issued the policy; it is the insurer that opens the claim file and pays the indemnity. You can reach the insurers' claim screens from the Online Services panel on this site. We guide and follow up throughout the process.

What is the difference between an insurance agency and an insurer?

The insurer carries the risk, issues the policy and pays the indemnity. An agency acts as an intermediary on the insurer's behalf: it identifies your need, prepares a comparative quote and guides you through the claim. RYL Sigorta Aracılık Hizmetleri is an agency.

Does the agency set the premium?

No. The premium is set by the insurer carrying the risk, according to its own tariff. An agency cannot set prices; it makes the offers from different insurers comparable on the same covers.

More detail: How Is an Insurance Premium Set?

My policy is with another agency — can you handle the renewal?

Yes. We review your current policy and prepare a comparative quote with the same covers. Just send us your expiry date.

Where can I see my existing policies?

You can view your motor policy and claims history through the SBM inquiry on the e-Devlet gateway. For other policies, use the insurer's own online service screen; both links are in the Online Services panel on this site.

Where can I find my vehicle's insured value?

The Insurance Association of Türkiye publishes a Kasko Value List every month. You can look up your vehicle's current listed value on this site by selecting make, model and year. That figure is the reference used in claim and quote calculations.

More detail: Insured Value Lookup

What happens to the information I enter in the quote form?

Your information is used only to prepare a quote and is processed in Türkiye; it is not transferred abroad. Data requested for health lines is special category personal data and is processed only with your explicit consent. The details are in our Privacy Notice.

Motor Insurance

What is the difference between compulsory motor liability insurance and kasko?

Motor third party liability answers for the operator's legal liability towards third parties, while kasko covers the direct material loss suffered by the vehicle named in the policy. Damage to your own vehicle is excluded from liability cover by Article A.6 of the General Conditions. One looks at the harm you cause others, the other at the loss your own vehicle sustains.

More detail: What Is Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance in Türkiye?

If a vehicle already has kasko, is compulsory traffic insurance still required?

Yes. Kasko is voluntary and does not replace the compulsory cover; Article 91 of Highway Traffic Law no. 2918 makes motor third party liability insurance compulsory. Vehicles without it at valid limits are taken off the road.

More detail: Kasko or Compulsory Traffic Insurance: What Is the Difference?

What happens if a vehicle has no compulsory traffic insurance?

Under Article 91 of Highway Traffic Law no. 2918, vehicles without compulsory cover at valid limits are taken off the road. The same article also provides for an administrative fine, applied at the amount published for the relevant year. Any loss caused in an accident is then met from the uninsured operator's own assets.

More detail: What Does Turkish Compulsory Motor Liability Insurance Cover?

Who pays for my loss if the other vehicle is uninsured?

The Guarantee Account under Article 14 of Insurance Law no. 5684 may be approached. Where the vehicle was uninsured, unidentified or stolen, however, the Account answers for bodily injury only, so damage to your vehicle falls outside it. Material damage is a matter for your own kasko policy or a claim against the responsible party.

More detail: What Does Turkish Compulsory Motor Liability Insurance Cover?

How quickly must the insurer pay after an accident?

Article 99 of Law no. 2918 requires payment within eight working days of the claimant delivering the necessary documents to the insurer's head office or one of its units. Before proceedings are brought, Article 97 gives the insurer 15 days to answer a written application.

More detail: What Does Turkish Compulsory Motor Liability Insurance Cover?

Does kasko automatically cover earthquake and flood?

No. Under clauses A.4.4 and A.4.5 of the Land Vehicles Kasko Insurance General Conditions, earthquake, landslide, storm, hail, lightning, volcanic eruption, flood and inundation enter cover only by supplementary agreement. If those clauses are not on your schedule, the cover is not there.

More detail: Kasko or Compulsory Traffic Insurance: What Is the Difference?

How long do I have to notify a kasko claim?

Clause B.1.1.1 of the General Conditions requires notice to the insurer within five working days of learning that the loss has occurred. Where the vehicle has been stolen, the authorities must also be notified immediately.

More detail: Kasko or Compulsory Traffic Insurance: What Is the Difference?

Does compulsory traffic insurance transfer to the buyer of the car?

No. Under clause C.4 the contract follows the insured and terminates automatically on the date the insured changes, with the premium refunded pro rata. The sentence that once kept it valid for the new operator for fifteen days has been repealed, so no grace period remains.

More detail: Kasko or Compulsory Traffic Insurance: What Is the Difference?

Is compulsory traffic insurance valid outside Türkiye?

No. Article A.4 of the General Conditions limits the cover to the territory of Türkiye. A vehicle travelling abroad needs a separate arrangement according to the destination country, and it is best put in place before reaching the border.

More detail: What Is Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance in Türkiye?

Does insurance pay traffic fines?

No. Article A.6 of the General Conditions lists all costs arising from criminal proceedings, together with administrative and judicial fines, among the exclusions. The fine remains yours even where a valid policy is in force.

More detail: What Happens if You Crash Without Compulsory Motor Insurance in Türkiye?

Can the injured party still recover after a drink-driving accident?

Yes. Article B.4 of the General Conditions and Article 95 of the Highway Traffic Law both provide that circumstances removing or reducing the indemnity obligation cannot be raised against the injured party. The insurer pays, then pursues recourse against its own insured.

More detail: How Does Drink-Driving Affect Motor Insurance in Türkiye?

How many vehicles are needed for a fleet kasko policy?

No minimum is set in legislation. Each insurer fixes the threshold through its own underwriting rules, weighing not only the number of vehicles but whether they are held by a single policyholder and whether their uses are similar. The figure is therefore confirmed by the insurer at quotation stage.

Home and Business Premises

Does DASK cover household contents?

No. Article A.3.2 of the General Conditions of Compulsory Earthquake Insurance excludes movable property and goods of every kind. Contents need a voluntary home policy, and Article A.3 of the Fire Insurance General Conditions lists earthquake among the perils that may be brought within cover by supplementary agreement.

More detail: What Is DASK and What Does It Cover?

Can a tenant take out compulsory earthquake insurance?

The duty to renew rests with the owner. Article C.1 of the General Conditions states that owners, or holders of a right of usufruct where one exists, must renew the contract every year. Whoever actually pays the premium, the insurable interest and the renewal duty stay with the owner.

More detail: What Is DASK and What Does It Cover?

How many days are there to notify earthquake damage?

Article B.1.1 of the General Conditions of Compulsory Earthquake Insurance requires notification to DASK, or to the insurer acting on its behalf, within fifteen business days of learning that the loss has occurred. Under kasko policies the same duty carries a five working day deadline.

More detail: After an Earthquake in Türkiye: DASK, Home and Motor Policies

Does DASK pay debris removal costs?

No. Article A.3.1 of the General Conditions lists debris removal costs among the exclusions, together with loss of profit, business interruption, loss of rent and alternative accommodation costs. These items can be brought within a voluntary home policy by supplementary agreement, provided their sums insured are separately stated.

More detail: After an Earthquake in Türkiye: DASK, Home and Motor Policies

Is glass broken in an earthquake paid under glass cover?

No. Article 3(f) of the glass wording excludes loss to insured glass and mirrors caused by earthquake, flood, inundation and volcanic eruption, and that exclusion cannot be bought back. Glass broken in an earthquake is assessed under the Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption Clause on the fire policy, or under compulsory earthquake insurance.

More detail: What Is Glass Breakage Insurance?

Can I claim for a scratch or a crack in the glass?

Article 1 of the glass wording ties cover to loss resulting from breakage. Article 3(d) expressly excludes scratches on the surface of insured glass and mirrors, along with chips flaking from the edge. Surface damage that stops short of breakage is therefore outside glass cover.

More detail: What Is Glass Breakage Insurance?

Is business premises insurance compulsory in Türkiye?

There is no general obligation to insure business premises or the goods inside them; the compulsion comes from the building or from the trade. Under Article 10 of Law no. 6305, shop and office units inside a building erected as a dwelling fall within compulsory earthquake insurance. Businesses handling dangerous substances must hold a separate compulsory liability cover.

More detail: What Is Commercial Property Insurance in Türkiye?

How can I tell whether my policy includes earthquake cover?

If the Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption Clause is not listed on your schedule, the fire policy carries no earthquake cover. Clause A.3.1.3 of the Fire Insurance General Conditions places earthquake and volcanic eruption outside cover unless a supplementary agreement and that clause are added. Compulsory earthquake insurance is a separate policy.

More detail: What Is Commercial Property Insurance in Türkiye?

Is common areas insurance compulsory in Türkiye?

The law does not compel it; the decision rests with the general assembly of owners. Article 21 of the Condominium Law provides that insuring the building for a value fixed by that assembly may be resolved by the assembly itself. Compulsory earthquake insurance rests on a separate law and is issued per unit.

More detail: What Is Common Areas Insurance in Türkiye?

Who pays the premium for common areas insurance?

The owners pay it in proportion to their land shares. Article 20 of the Condominium Law requires owners to contribute to the building's insurance premiums and to the maintenance, protection, strengthening and repair costs of all common parts in that proportion. Unlike caretaker and gardener costs, the premium is not split equally.

More detail: What Is Common Areas Insurance in Türkiye?

Is building completion insurance compulsory?

Security is compulsory; this particular policy is not. Article 42 of Law no. 6502 requires security for projects above the size determined by the Ministry, and the Regulation on Pre-Paid Housing Sales sets that threshold at thirty units or more. Instead the seller may choose a bank letter of guarantee, a progress payment system or security through linked credit.

More detail: Building Completion Insurance in Türkiye: What It Is and Who It Protects

Can I buy loss of profits cover without a fire policy?

No. Clause A.1 of the Fire Loss of Profits General Conditions requires, before any payment, that the buildings, plant, fixtures and stock used in the business were damaged by a peril insured under a valid fire insurance contract. It further requires that the fire insurer has indemnified that damage or admitted liability for it.

More detail: What Is Business Interruption Insurance?

Health Insurance

Is complementary health insurance the same as private health insurance?

No. A complementary policy targets the extra charges added to expenses SGK already funds, and its mechanics depend on an SGK payment existing. Private health insurance is built independently of SGK, and the benefits follow directly from the policy plan.

More detail: What Is Complementary Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Will a complementary policy pay my consultation and medicine co-payments?

It cannot. A paragraph added to the Private Health Insurance Regulation, in force since 1 January 2026, prohibits private insurers from covering or paying the co-payments owed under social security legislation. Those amounts stay with the insured.

More detail: What Is Complementary Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Does a complementary policy respond in an emergency?

Not in the first 24 hours: stabilisation is the rule in the emergency department, no extra fee may be charged for services given in that window, and so no gap arises for the policy to close. The patient is then told in writing, against signature, that the emergency has ended. Procedures after that notice are assessed under the policy.

More detail: What Is Complementary Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Does the waiting period restart at every renewal?

It does not. A waiting period may be applied only in the first insurance period for each benefit, not in later periods where the policy is renewed within the same plan. Once it has been served, a new insurer applies none either, save for the special cases set by the regulator.

More detail: What Is Complementary Health Insurance in Türkiye?

How is the lifetime renewal guarantee earned?

Being insured continuously under the same plan for three years, with total claims over that period staying below 80% of total premiums, is enough; gaps of up to one month between renewal dates do not count as a break. The Regulation allows no harsher assessment condition, and the guarantee cannot be refused to an insured who meets it.

More detail: What Is Private Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Can my premium still rise after I earn the guarantee?

Not in a way that singles you out. The Regulation prohibits narrowing cover, reducing limits, increasing the insured's share or applying a medical loading because of illnesses arising after the guarantee. Those bans do not freeze the insurer's general tariff, and benefit limits are separately updated at renewal.

More detail: What Is Private Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Who is my health data shared with?

The insurer may access information through the Insurance Information and Monitoring Centre for risk assessment and for concluding a claim, and any information or document requested must be directly connected to that purpose. Health data is special category personal data under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law, and processing it rests on explicit consent.

More detail: What Is Private Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Is travel health insurance compulsory for a visa application?

For a Schengen visa the Visa Code requires travel medical insurance valid throughout the territory of the Member States applying the Schengen acquis in full and for the entire period of stay. The minimum cover amount is set in the Visa Code itself. Outside Schengen the requirement varies, so the consulate's current notice should be checked first.

More detail: What Is Travel Health Insurance in Türkiye?

When exactly does a travel health policy start?

For outbound journeys, cover starts at the moment the passport records departure from the country's borders and ends at the moment the passport records the return. For journeys into Türkiye the order is reversed. For domestic travel the start and end dates are written directly into the policy.

More detail: What Is Travel Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Is travel health insurance enough for a residence permit?

In most cases it is not. A residence permit application requires health insurance covering the requested permit period, whereas a travel policy runs on border crossings. Which document is accepted should be confirmed on the Presidency of Migration Management page for the relevant permit type.

More detail: What Is Travel Health Insurance in Türkiye?

Liability Insurance

How does liability insurance differ from property insurance?

Property insurance meets damage to the insured's own assets, whereas liability insurance takes on the compensation debt the insured owes third parties. As a rule the payment goes to the injured party. The Third Party Liability General Conditions set out that framework.

More detail: What Is Liability Insurance?

Which professions must hold professional indemnity insurance?

The obligation applies to physicians, dentists and medical specialists, to insurance and reinsurance brokers, and to independent auditors and audit firms. Compulsion is not the general rule but an exception created by separate legislation for particular activities; for other professions the cover is voluntary.

More detail: What Is Professional Indemnity Insurance in Türkiye?

Will a claim made after my policy expires be covered?

Yes, where the policy is written on the occurrence limb. The Professional Liability General Conditions treat loss as within the risk where it arises from activity carried out during the policy period, either in that period or within two years of expiry. Under the accountants' clause the period is five years.

More detail: What Is Professional Indemnity Insurance in Türkiye?

Does a physician in public service need a separate policy?

Not for the public role: one policy covering all of them is issued for public health institutions, and no additional contract or premium arises from a transfer or a temporary assignment. If the same physician also works in a private institution or in independent practice, that activity is the subject of a separate insurance relationship.

More detail: What Is Compulsory Medical Malpractice Insurance in Türkiye?

Who pays the premium for a physician's professional indemnity policy?

Half the premium falls on the physician and half on the employer. In the public sector the employer's share comes from the revolving fund where one exists and from the institutional budget where it does not. A physician in independent practice has no employer to share with, so the whole premium is theirs.

More detail: What Is Compulsory Medical Malpractice Insurance in Türkiye?

Is professional indemnity insurance compulsory for lawyers?

No. The Attorneyship Law contains no obligation for lawyers to hold professional indemnity insurance; the cover is voluntary. The Lawyers' Professional Liability Clause annexed to the general conditions nevertheless sets out how the cover is shaped for legal practice.

More detail: Professional Indemnity Insurance for Lawyers in Türkiye

Who has to hold lift professional indemnity insurance?

The duty sits with the authorised service. The Lift Operation and Maintenance Regulation requires a policy answering claims brought by the building manager and third parties for professional errors or omissions in the maintenance, repair and servicing of the lift. The obligation is on the firm providing the service, not on the building management.

More detail: Lift Maintenance Professional Indemnity Insurance in Türkiye

Does the building management have to insure the lift?

The duties the regulation places on the building manager do not include taking out insurance; third-party liability cover for lift accidents is voluntary on the building side. A management plan, a decision of the owners or an operating agreement may nevertheless require the policy, in which case the obligation comes from the contract.

More detail: Lift Maintenance Professional Indemnity Insurance in Türkiye

Is employer's liability insurance compulsory?

No statutory obligation requires every employer to buy this cover; it is voluntary. Public tenders and subcontracting or main contractor agreements often require the policy to be produced. There the duty comes from the contract, not from legislation.

More detail: What Is Employer's Liability Insurance in Türkiye?

Are occupational diseases covered by an employer's liability policy?

Not unless otherwise agreed. The Employer's Liability General Conditions place compensation claims arising from occupational diseases outside cover, and the section can be bought back by endorsement. In workplaces with exposure to noise, dust or chemicals this buy-back is the most decisive line on the policy.

More detail: What Is Employer's Liability Insurance in Türkiye?

Is drone insurance compulsory for every flight?

The scope of the duty follows the purpose of use and the maximum take-off weight. The Regulation on Third-Party Liability Insurance for Civil Aircraft sets a minimum cover for every class in commercial use, while non-commercial classes up to 25 kilograms carry none. That does not mean liability disappears once damage occurs.

More detail: Drone Insurance in Türkiye: What Is Actually Required?

Can I obtain an environmental licence without the policy?

No. The Waste Management Regulation provides that institutions, organisations and businesses failing to comply with the insurance obligation are not granted permits or licences for those activities. The insurance is not an accessory to the operation; it is a precondition of the permit and licence application.

More detail: What Is Compulsory Hazardous Substances Liability Insurance?

Who counts as a third party, and are my employees third parties?

A third party is someone outside the insurance relationship who suffers loss because of the business's operations. Persons bound to the insured by a contract of service or agency, and the insured's family members, are excluded by the general conditions. Claims arising from occupational accidents and diseases belong to employer's liability insurance.

Engineering Insurance

How many types of engineering insurance are there?

Four general condition wordings belong directly to this class: Construction Insurance, Erection Insurance, Machinery Breakdown Insurance and Electronic Equipment Insurance. Other product names used in the market combine these four wordings with additional clauses.

More detail: What Are the Types of Engineering Insurance?

What does machinery breakdown insurance cover?

Article 1 covers machinery and plant against sudden and unforeseen damage while working normally after the trial period. Damage arising during cleaning, overhaul or relocation at the same premises, and while the machine is at rest, sits inside the cover as well.

More detail: What Is Machinery Breakdown Insurance?

Does machinery breakdown insurance pay for fire damage?

No. The general conditions exclude the direct effect of fire, the firefighting, demolition and salvage work that a fire causes, and the direct effect of lightning. Fire risk is placed under a commercial property policy that carries fire cover.

More detail: What Is Machinery Breakdown Insurance?

Does electronic equipment insurance cover theft?

Yes. Article 1 covers theft and attempted theft at the premises where the insured property is located. This is the clearest line against machinery breakdown insurance, where theft is an absolute exclusion.

More detail: What Is Electronic Equipment Insurance?

Does electronic equipment insurance pay for data loss?

Only in a limited way. Loss arising from physical damage to external data media is excluded unless otherwise agreed, so it enters cover by endorsement. Software faults, deletion and ransomware are not the subject of these general conditions.

More detail: What Is Electronic Equipment Insurance?

Is solar plant insurance compulsory?

Insurance legislation defines no compulsory class specific to solar generation, and the regulator's index of general conditions holds no solar-specific wording. Where the investment is debt financed, however, the loan agreement may require cover to be placed.

More detail: What Is Solar Plant Insurance?

Is hail damage automatically covered on a solar plant policy?

No. Hail is not a named peril in the fire, machinery breakdown or electronic equipment general conditions. It enters the policy only through a special condition or clause, with its own deductible stated in the policy.

More detail: What Is Solar Plant Insurance?

Is Contractors' All Risks insurance compulsory?

In public works, Article 9 of Law No. 4735 obliges the contractor to insure the works from the start of work to provisional acceptance, and to hold extended maintenance period cover from provisional to final acceptance. In private projects the duty arises from the contract between the parties.

More detail: What Is Contractors' All Risks Insurance?

Is third party liability automatically included in a construction policy?

No. The Construction Insurance General Conditions list the insured's legal liability for third party losses among the matters that may be added by supplementary agreement. Without that extension, damage to a neighbouring structure or to a passer-by falls outside the policy.

More detail: What Is Contractors' All Risks Insurance?

Are erection insurance and contractors' all risks the same thing?

No. The insuring clauses are similar but the subject matter differs: CAR covers building works on site, while EAR covers machinery and plant being erected. Erection insurance includes a four-week testing period; the construction counterpart is the maintenance period.

More detail: What Is Erection (EAR) Insurance?

Is damage during test running covered by erection insurance?

Unless the policy states otherwise, a four-week testing period is included in the term, and the start of test running must be notified to the insurer in writing at least eight days in advance. A longer period can only be added by endorsement, and where used machinery is erected no testing period cover is granted.

More detail: What Is Erection (EAR) Insurance?

Marine and Transport

Is CMR insurance compulsory?

No statutory duty to insure applies. The compulsory road carriage liability provisions of Law No. 4925 were repealed, and the insurance obligation in the Road Transport Regulation attaches to passenger carriage. Cargo interests and foreign customers nevertheless often require evidence of cover under the contract.

More detail: What Is CMR Insurance in Türkiye?

Does CMR insurance pay the value of the goods?

No. What responds is the carrier's legal liability, and compensation is capped at 8.33 Special Drawing Rights per kilogram of gross weight short. Where the cargo is worth more, the shortfall stays with the carrier unless the sender declares a higher value in the consignment note against an agreed surcharge.

More detail: What Is CMR Insurance in Türkiye?

How is 8.33 SDR converted into Turkish lira?

The Special Drawing Right is the unit of account of the International Monetary Fund and its rate moves, so no fixed figure can be quoted. The Protocol converts the amount into the currency of the state whose court is seised, at the rate on the date of judgment. For domestic carriage the Turkish Commercial Code uses the Central Bank value on the date the goods were handed over.

More detail: What Is CMR Insurance in Türkiye?

If the cargo is already insured, is CMR cover still needed?

Yes. Article 41 of the Convention voids any clause assigning the benefit of the goods insurance to the carrier. The cargo insurer that pays may take recourse against the liable carrier, so the two policies protect different interests and are not interchangeable.

More detail: What Is CMR Insurance in Türkiye?

What is the difference between FFL and CMR cover?

A CMR policy addresses the convention liability of the carrier that actually undertakes international carriage by road. Freight forwarder's liability cover addresses the liability of the party organising and undertaking the carriage. Because the organiser is treated as a carrier even without owning a vehicle, it needs cover of its own.

More detail: Types of Marine and Transit Insurance in Türkiye

Is domestic carrier's liability insurance compulsory?

The articles of the Road Transport Regulation dealing with compulsory insurance concern passenger transport; no general liability requirement is imposed for goods transport. A separate compulsory policy applies to dangerous goods. Carrier's liability insurance is, however, compulsory for holders of a transport operations organiser certificate.

More detail: Types of Marine and Transit Insurance in Türkiye

When must a transport claim be notified?

In carriage under CMR, notice is given at the time of delivery where loss or damage is apparent, and within seven days of delivery where it is not, excluding Sundays and public holidays. Notice of non-apparent damage must be in writing. Actions must generally be brought within one year, or three years in cases of wilful misconduct.

Yacht and Pleasure Craft

Is boat insurance compulsory?

Hull and machinery cover for the boat's own damage is voluntary. The Compulsory Marine Craft Third Party Liability General Conditions, however, impose a separate compulsory liability policy on sea craft that carry passengers commercially.

More detail: What Is Boat and Yacht Insurance?

Are yachts and pleasure boats inside the wording?

Article A.1 of the Hull General Conditions brings yachts, cutters, pleasure craft, sailing boats and personal watercraft into scope where the insurer accepts them. Inclusion follows underwriting acceptance rather than the wording alone.

More detail: What Is Boat and Yacht Insurance?

Is damage caused to another boat paid?

Only where third party liability has been included in the cover. Article A.3 covers liability indemnity to the extent it has been written into the policy. Without that extension, damage caused to another party sits outside hull cover.

More detail: What Is Boat and Yacht Insurance?

Can a boat without a class certificate be insured?

It can, subject to a condition. Under article A.2, craft without a classification society certificate can be the subject of insurance only if they were built in accordance with the relevant legislation in force. Where that condition is not met, the craft cannot be written on the policy.

More detail: What Is Boat and Yacht Insurance?

What is the time bar for a hull claim?

Two years. Article C.6 of the Hull General Conditions provides that all claims arising out of the insurance contract become time barred two years from the date of loss. Because the period runs from the loss date, opening the claim file should not be delayed.

More detail: What Is Boat and Yacht Insurance?

Insurance Concepts

How is an insurance premium set?

The insurer carrying the risk sets the premium. Under Article 12 of Insurance Law No. 5684 tariffs are set freely by insurance companies in line with insurance principles and generally accepted actuarial techniques, while for compulsory lines the tariffs and instructions are fixed by the Minister. An agency does not build tariffs.

More detail: How Is an Insurance Premium Set?

Why did my premium go up?

The two most common causes are a drop in the no-claims step because an indemnity was paid during the policy period, and late renewal. Under the Regulation on Tariff Application Principles, 5% is added to the next contract's premium for every 30 days of delay, capped at 50% of the premium. An aggravation of the risk can also create a premium difference.

More detail: What Pushes an Insurance Premium Up in Türkiye?

What is market value (rayiç bedel)?

Rayiç bedel is the indemnity value of the insured item at the moment the peril occurs. The Fire Insurance General Conditions tie the settlement to that value, and under the kasko general conditions a vehicle is covered up to its market value at the date of loss. The measure is the moment of loss, not the day the policy was written.

More detail: What Is Market Value (Rayiç Bedel) in Turkish Insurance?

What are underinsurance and over-insurance?

Underinsurance arises where the sum insured sits below the true value of the property, over-insurance where it sits above. Under Article 1462 of the Turkish Commercial Code, unless the contract provides otherwise, a partial loss is paid in the proportion the sum insured bears to the value. Under Article 1463 the excess is void and premium collected on it is refunded.

More detail: Underinsurance and Over-Insurance in Turkish Policies

What is a premium loading (sürprim)?

A sürprim is the amount added to the standard-tariff premium because the risk is heavier than average. Everyday Turkish calls it ek prim or prim yüklemesi, while the statutes mostly speak of a premium difference. It lasts as long as its cause does and is reassessed at renewal once the cause is gone.

More detail: What Is a Premium Loading (Sürprim)?

What is a policy and when must it be delivered?

A policy evidences the insurance contract rather than constituting it. Under Article 1424 of the Turkish Commercial Code a policy signed by authorised persons must be delivered within twenty-four hours where the contract was concluded by the insurer or its agent, and within fifteen days in other cases. The insurer is liable for loss caused by late delivery.

More detail: What Is an Insurance Policy and How Is It Issued?

What should I check when buying insurance online?

The first check is identity: the agency's trading name and its Levha registry number, held at TOBB, should be visible. Article 19 of the Insurance Agencies Regulation also requires the agency to publish the insurers it acts for and the powers granted to it. Confirm which insurer will issue the policy before you pay.

More detail: Buying Insurance Online in Türkiye: What to Check

Can I withdraw from a policy bought online?

As a rule, yes. Article 8 of the Regulation on Distance Contracts for Financial Services grants fourteen days to withdraw, while Article 13 excepts travel and baggage policies valid for less than one month. Separately, Article 1430 of the Turkish Commercial Code allows withdrawal before the insurer's liability begins, on payment of half the premium.

More detail: Buying Insurance Online in Türkiye: What to Check

Which insurances are compulsory in Türkiye?

The main compulsory covers with published general conditions are motor third party liability, compulsory earthquake insurance, medical malpractice, private security, hazardous substances and LPG cylinder liability. Compulsory status comes from statute: under Article 13 of Insurance Law No. 5684 the President may create compulsory lines where the public interest requires it.

More detail: Which Insurances Are Compulsory in Türkiye?

Where do I take an insurance dispute?

You apply to the Insurance Arbitration Commission, the route outside the courts established by Article 30 of Insurance Law No. 5684. You must first have applied to the insurance undertaking and be able to document a negative outcome; a failure to reply in writing within fifteen business days is equally sufficient. A dispute already before a court cannot be taken there.

More detail: How to File a Claim With the Insurance Arbitration Commission

What counts as force majeure?

Force majeure is an extraordinary event that makes performance impossible for reasons the debtor cannot be held responsible for; Article 136 of the Turkish Code of Obligations extinguishes the obligation in that case. In insurance what decides the outcome is not the label but whether the peril is written into the policy as covered.

More detail: What Is Force Majeure in Turkish Insurance?

What types of insurance are there?

Insurance divides into the life and non-life groups, and a company may operate in only one of them (Insurance Law No. 5684, Article 5). The classes inside those groups are fixed by the Communiqué on Insurance Classes: eighteen headings in non-life and seven in life. Product names do not map one to one onto that official split.

More detail: What Are the Types of Insurance in Türkiye?

What is the difference between an insurer and an agency?

An agency is an intermediary; the party carrying the risk is the insurance company. Under Article 17 of the Insurance Agencies Regulation the authority to conclude contracts and collect premiums belongs to the insurer and reaches the agency only through a power of attorney.
